MLB roundup: Braves' McCann to return Monday

Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann is set to come off the disabled list after a final rehab game in the minor leagues on Sunday.

McCann is expected to join the Braves on Monday in Cincinnati for their game against the Reds, according to multiple reports.

The six-time All-Star catcher had surgery in October on a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He was to finish a rehab stint with Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday and, barring a setback, fly to Cincinnati with the Braves lafter Atlanta's game against the New York Mets.

Entering Sunday's game with Gwinnett, McCann was hitting .364 with four homers in six games with Class A Rome and Gwinnett.

---Back spasms will force Chicago White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy to miss a second straight start, the team announced.

Peavy was to be the starting pitcher for Monday's game against Kansas City. He'll be replaced by Chris Sale, the White Sox's Opening Day starter.

White Sox manager Robin Venture did not rule out a trip to the disabled list as a possibility for Peavy.

--- Angels reliever Ryan Madson threw a bullpen session Saturday for the first time since undergoing a procedure last week to remove scar tissue from his surgically-repaired right elbow, the Los Angeles Times reported.

---The Cleveland Indians recalled left-hander Scott Barnes from Class AAA Columbus and designed outfielder Ezequiel Carrera for assignment.

Barnes is 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA in eight relief appearances for Columbus this season.

---Veteran left-hander Erik Bedard was removed from the Houston Astros rotation and will be pitching out of the bullpen, MLB.com reported. Bedard has allowed 24 hits, 12 walks and 17 earned runs in 18 2/3 innings of work this season for an 8.20 ERA.

---Boston Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his sore right biceps muscle Monday, the Boston Globe reported. He is likely to be placed on the the 15-day disabled list.

---Cleveland Indians outfielder Michael Bourn has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Monday with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. He will spend two or three days in the minors before being activated from the 15-day disabled list after suffering a deep cut on his right index finger.
