MLB Roundup: Blackburn to AAA, McDonald joins Yanks

Minnesota Twins right-hander Nick Blackburn was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, one day after he allowed six runs in four innings to the Detroit Tigers. He has posted an 8.10 ERA in 13 starts this season.

The Twins purchased the contract of righty Casey Fien to fill his spot. Fien signed a minor-league deal with Minnesota this winter and posted a 4.30 ERA in 46 innings at Triple-A.

---Darnell McDonald has joined the New York Yankees, the outfielder said via his Twitter. McDonald, 33, was designated for assignment by the Red Sox over the weekend. He batted .214 in 99 plate appearances this year.

---The Chicago White Sox placed righty Jesse Crain on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to June 24, with a right posterior shoulder strain.

Tests didn't reveal any structural damage, so Crain could return shortly after the All-Star break.

Righty Duente Heath was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Crain on the active roster. He has posted a 1.70 ERA in 42 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season.

---Colorado Rockies pitcher Josh Outman was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday. The lefty walked five in a three-inning outing Monday in St. Louis and has posted a 9.00 ERA in 31 innings this season.

---The Atlanta Braves released D.J. Carrasco. The righty signed a minor-league deal with the Braves two weeks after being released by the New York Mets, but allowed seven runs on 10 hits and five walks in five-plus innings with Triple-A Gwinnett.
