COMMENTARY | With a rather prevalent player inching closer to a return for the Milwaukee Brewers, what better time than now is there to detail the squad's disabled list.
We'll take a look at each player currently sidelined with injury and give an update on his status and potential return date.
1B: Mat Gamel (Knee - Placed on 60-day DL on March 20)
After tearing his ACL on Feb. 17, Gamel was officially placed on the 60-day disabled list about a month later. He is expected to miss the entire 2013 season and was in line to be the starting first baseman on opening day.
SP: Mark Rogers (Shoulder - Placed on 15-day DL on March 25)
Rogers' fastball velocity was noticeably low during spring training, so he was shut down and placed on the DL prior to the start of the season with shoulder fatigue. On May 9, Rogers was pulled from a rehab start with Double-A Huntsville after nine pitches because of tingling in his right arm. While this isn't considered to be serious and Rogers' velocity had improved, there's still no timetable on his return.
SP/RP: Chris Narveson (Finger - Placed on 15-day DL on April 7)
After just two appearances this season, Narveson sprained his left middle finger and was shelved as a result. On May 18, he threw a 40-pitch bullpen session, and there is a possibility Narveson is placed in the rotation rather than the bullpen upon his return, considering the struggles of the righty-dominant starting five this season. Narveson should be heading out on a rehab assignment any day now, meaning we should expect his return within the next few weeks.
1B: Corey Hart (Knee - Placed on 60-day DL on April 9)
Originally beginning the season on the 15-day DL after requiring surgery on his knee in the offseason, Hart was pushed back to the 60-day DL not only because his rehab was taking longer than many hoped, but to also make room on the 40-man roster for another position player. Recently, Hart ran the bases and took batting practice, but he won't be ready to come off the DL on May 30.
RP: Tom Gorzelanny (Shoulder - Placed on 15-day DL on May 8)
Left shoulder tendinitis is keeping Gorzelanny on the DL, but he just threw a bullpen session and as long as he doesn't suffer a setback, we should expect to see Gorzo back in the pen on May 24.
IF: Taylor Green (Hip - Placed on 60-day DL on May 16)
Like Hart, Green began the season on the 15-day DL, but, recently, it was declared that Green would require hip surgery and he is now expected to miss the remainder of 2013. Had he come back, Green would have assumed a utility role with the Brewers at best.
