VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) -- Mason Mills threw for four touchdowns and 230 yards to lead the University of San Diego to a 58-14 victory over Valparaiso Saturday.
The Toreros remain in the hunt for the Pioneer Conference title. Their only setback was a double-overtime loss to Dayton, 45-38.
Lawrence Larivee opened the scoring for San Diego (6-3, 5-1 Pioneer), running it in from 1-yard out. James added a 17-yard rushing score in the second. Valparaiso (1-8, 1-5) tightened the gap when Eric Hoffman hit Tanner Kuramata on a 15-yard scoring strike to make it 23-7 at the half.
San Diego quickly extended its lead to 37-7 in the third quarter on two touchdown passes by Mills, to Sam Hoekstra, from 9 yards out and Ferguson, from the 16.
