Milicic signs with Celtics

Free-agent center Darko Milicic has joined the Boston Celtics, his agent confirmed to ESPN.com.

Milicic had received strong interest from teams overseas, but opted to remain in the NBA. He's expected to make the deal official in Boston by the end of week, agent Marc Cornstein told ESPN.com.

The 27-year-old spent left the Minnesota Timberwolves in July through the amnesty clause. He had two seasons left on a four-year, $20 million contract signed in 2010.

He has also played for the Detroit Pistons, who selected him No. 2 overall in the 2003 NBA draft, Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks.

For his career, Milicic has averaged 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds over 467 games.
