Mikkel Diskerud turns down Norway Under-21s

After failing to find an agreement with a Major League Soccer Club, United States international Mikkel 'Mix' Diskerud has decided to return to Norway giant Rosenburg on a two-year deal.

Rosenburg announced the move on Tuesday and it ends Diskerud's lengthy search for a club. The 22-year-old midfielder's contract had expired at the end of 2012 and he had spent the past month and a half in talks with several clubs. According to Soccer by Ives, one of the clubs was the Portland Timbers though an agreement over a Designated Player contract could not be reached.

Diskerud has made three appearances, all in exhibitions, for the U.S. national team and has scored one goal. He is considered a versatile playmaker who can play anywhere in the midfield. Rosenburg's Athletic Director Erik Hoftun admitted that the club wanted to sign Diskerud to a longer contract but couldn't find an agreement past two seasons. Still, Hoftun is happy to bring back the Norwegian-born American international.

"We wanted a longer contract with Mix, but it was two years or nothing and the choice was easy for us," Hoftun told the club's official website.
