Mikkel Diskerud turns down Norway Under-21s

Sometimes, actions speak louder than words.

According to several outlets in Norway, Mikkel Diskerud has rejected an offer from the Norway Under-21 side to play in this summer's European Championship. There was some speculation that the 22-year-old attacking midfielder was seriously considering the Drillos offer especially after he declined to publicly comment on the team's interest to Goal.com over the weekend. The news comes shortly after Goal.com reported that Diskerud is expected to play for the United States this summer according to a source within the senior national team.

Diskerud confirmed the reports out of Norway via email.

While Diskerud's decision doesn't rule him out of featuring for the Norway senior side at some point, if the Rosenborg star plays in this year's Gold Cup, he will become cap-tied to the U.S.. Diskerud expressed his interest in playing in the summer tournament to Goal.com, though he admitted that it will be up to his team to determine if he can play for the Stars-and-Stripes.

"I love to compete. Besides that, I will always consider it a great honor to be asked to represent my country," Diskerud explained. "But I belong to a very dedicated club as well, and the interests to both the club and myself always have factored in the contracts I have voluntarily entered into."
