Mix Diskerud cap-tied with the United States

After featuring sparingly for the United States national team over the past two years, Norway wants to give Mikkel "Mix" Diskerud a chance to be a part of its future.

In an interview with Norweigan publication Dagbladet, Norway Under-21 coach Tor Ole Skullerud revealed that he is interested in bringing in Diskerud for the team's upcoming turn in the U-21 European Championship this summer. The coach explained that he had been in touch with Diskerud several times and hopes that if Diskerud does join the youth side, he would eventually play for the senior national team.

According to the same article, the Norway U21 team has to make a decision on Diskerud's status with the team by May 5. Diskerud is a dual-national and hasn't featured for the United States in an official FIFA competition or World Cup Qualifier. Diskerud acknowledged the interest but wouldn't comment on his own thought process to Goal.com.

"I would rather not address the issue publicly. And I have not done so to the Norwegian press either," Diskerud replied to Goal.com via email.

If Diskerud decides to join Norway and thrives in the future, it could bring up painful memories for U.S. fans of former dual-nationals who have chosen other teams like Dortmund's Neven Subotic or Fiorentina's Giuseppe Rossi. Diskerud currently has three caps for the U.S. senior side.

Stay tuned for Goal.com's full interview with Mikkel "Mix" Diskerud on Monday.
