In the opening fight of UFC on Fox 4, the Ultimate Fighting Championship brought back Mike "Quick" Swick to take on DaMarques "Darkness" Johnson in the welterweight division. The last time we saw Swick compete inside the Octagon, he suffered his second straight defeat when Paulo Thiago got the second round win in February 2010. Johnson was last seen in the UFC losing to John Maguire at UFC on Fuel TV 2 in April. Overall, Johnson had dropped 3-of-5 five fights dating back to 2010.
Swick wasted little time to move straight at Johnson and after a brief exchange of strikes, Swick connected with a huge right hand that rocked Darkness. Johnson was able to recover and landed solid strikes of his own. Johnson then used his strength to push Swick down to the mat where he held him in full guard. Swick worked the fight back to the feet and both men began exchanging bombs. Johnson connected with a nice trip to take down Swick and got into the full mount where he did landed more solid strikes. In side control, Johnson briefly went for the D'Arce Choke, but gave up on it. The round ended with Johnson on top of Swick, securing the round.
My scorecard: 10-9 Johnson
The second round began with both fighters looking tentative with their striking. Swick waited for his chance, caught a leg, pushed Johnson to the mat and knocked him out with one punch on the mat.
Official Decision: Mike Swick by Knockout at 1:20 of the second round
After a long hiatus in the career of the 33-year-old Swick, he returned in a big way to get the knockout win against Johnson. With the win, Swick improved his career record to 15-4, including eight wins by way of knockout or TKO. Swick still has a chance to move up the rankings in the welterweight division and after that performance, he doesn't seem to have missed a beat.
