Michigan will honor former President Gerald Ford by bringing his No. 48 jersey out of retirement this season.
Coach Brady Hoke shared the news on a radio appearance on Birmingham, Ala., WJOX-AM.
"We're honoring Desmond Howard now with one of our players who really deserves it, and that's (receiver) Roy Roundtree wearing No. 21," Hoke said. "We're going to do the same with Gerald Ford's jersey this year. We're looking at doing it."
Michigan has five retired numbers that honor a total of seven players.
No player was assigned No. 48 on the Wolverines' preseason roster.
