Michael Sam Reconsiders Decision to Come Out as Gay in OWN Documentary Clip (Video)
Michael Sam had a hell of a career playing college football at the University of Missouri. Seemingly headed for the pro-football ranks, Sam came out publicly as gay — a decision he would question as other players were selected during the 2014 NFL Draft for nearly a full three days before his own name was called.

“The draft was the longest three days of my life,” Sam admits in a snippet from his upcoming OWN documentary. “I went upstairs and then I was thinking, should I have came out? Did I make the right choice of coming out and telling the world I was gay?”
The second thoughts didn’t last very long, Sam said.
“And then I’m looking outside, through the window, and I’m thinking that, and then I felt a hand all over my shoulder and that person was Vito,” he continued. “And in that moment I was like, I don’t care what happens. I made the right choice to come out.”
Sam was eventually selected in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams. He played for the team in the preseason, but was ultimately cut. He was later picked up by the Dallas Cowboys, but did not make the team there either.
The 90-minute documentary “Michael Sam” airs on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 9 p.m. In a special episode of “Oprah Prime” at 10:30 p.m., Oprah Winfrey sits down with Michael for his first interview since being cut from the NFL.
