COMMENTARY | The Miami Marlins' inauspicious start to the season has not been helped by the rash of injuries they have dealt with before and during the campaign thus far.

The following is updated as of May 21.

Alvarez was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 7 with right shoulder inflammation. His return is to be determined. The earliest he could come off the DL is around the All-Star break.

Jose Ceda, relief pitcher, 60-day disabled list

Ceda was placed on the 60-day DL the day before the season began March 31. He is still recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in April 2012. The timetable for his return is unknown.

Nathan Eovaldi, starting pitcher, 60-day disabled list

Eovaldi was placed on the DL on March 24 due to right shoulder inflammation. He threw 30-40 pitches in a bullpen session May 16 and was slated for a 45-pitch simulated game May 20. It's possible he will return as early as mid-June.
