The Miami Heat secured their spot in the Eastern Conference finals on May 24, defeating the Indiana Pacers 105-93. With the win, the Heat will now get a few days to relax, while the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers battle for the second spot in the conference finals on May 26.
The Heat actually came out flat in Game 6, but they fought their way back in the second quarter. They took over the game in the third quarter, never looking back on their way to the victory.
The Heat didn't have the services of Udonis Haslem - who was serving a one game suspension - in Game 6, but it really didn't matter thanks to the impressive play of Dwyane Wade. Dwyane led Miami's offense against the Pacers, finishing with 41 points and 10 rebounds.
"In the regular season, we've had some good games," Wade told reporters after the game. "But I don't know if we've ever had three in a row like that in the playoffs. … We understand that when Chris went out, we had to step up. The team looked to us to lead."
LeBron also played his part on Thursday, putting up 28 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. The Heat also got a much needed boost from Mario Chalmers and Mike Miller, who finished the contest with 15 and 12 points respectively.
The Heat were the favorites going into their series against Indiana, but the Pacers came to play, exceeding all expectations against Miami. The Pacers certainly deserve a lot of credit for holding their own against one of the best teams in the NBA, and I'm sure we'll see a lot more of them in the future.
For the most part, the Heat didn't have the services of Bosh in their series against the Pacers, but he is expected to return during the conference finals. However, given how well LeBron and Wade are playing right now, he won't have to rush himself, as the "big two" are more than capable of getting the team into the finals.
