Miami sophomore guard Shane Larkin will declare for the NBA draft.
His father, baseball Hall of Famer Barry Larkin, now an ESPN analyst, said Friday that he will announce his intentions to declare for the draft. A new conference at the university is scheduled for Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. ESPN reported that it could be moved up since Larkin's decision is known.
The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft is Sunday. New NCAA rules indicate that once a player announces he is declaring for the draft, he cannot return to the school.
Larkin averaged 14.5 points and 4.6 assists to lead the Hurricanes to their first ACC regular-season and tournament championships. Miami also reached the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament in March.
Larkin is a second-team AP All-American.
