There is not one game that I have not looked forward to this season as a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins. However, the Fins' upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts is one that I have had highlighted on the calendar since the Dolphins named rookie Ryan Tannehill their starting quarterback. This is of course due to the fact that Tannehill, the number eight overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, will go head-to-head with the number one overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, quarterback Andrew Luck. With Tannehill just coming off an injury that forced him out of the game against the New York Jets last week, I am hopeful that he will play in this upcoming match of rookie quarterback sensations, but only if he is ready.
Back in the Swing of Things - Sort Of
Ryan Tannehill is back at practice, though he has been limited in what he has been able to do. This has me worried as I know Tannehill is a competitor and likely wants nothing more than to get into the game against Luck and the Colts, but would that really be what's best for the Dolphins as a team? If Tannehill is not feeling 100% I think he should opt to sit out and let backup Matt Moore take the snaps. Should Tannehill play and be less than 100% then he might be putting himself at risk as well as hurt the team's chance at securing another needed victory.
Out to Prove Something?
Another concern that I have is that Tannehill might be out to prove something. After all, he was the number eight pick where Luck was the number one pick and there were many doubters who thought he shouldn't have been taken as early as he was, myself included. Though he has won fans like me over for sure with his outstanding play so far this season, he might feel that he has more to prove and what better way to make a statement than with a huge game against Andrew Luck and the Colts.
Plenty of Time
The way I look at things, there will be plenty of time for these two quarterbacks to face one another as the years go on. With the Dolphins a surprising 4-3 and the Colts also at 4-3 , there is no doubt that Ryan Tannehill and Andrew Luck are both going to start for their respective teams for many seasons to come. So, while the rabid fan in me really wants to see Tannehill best Luck in every passing category in their upcoming matchup, the rational fan in me only wants to see Tannehill take the field if he is truly ready to do so.
