Mexico to face Nigeria in Houston on May 31

The Mexican federation has announced that the Mexico national team will face African champion Nigeria in a May 31 friendly at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. local time, 9:00 p.m. ET.

The match will be El Tri's final tuneup for three June World Cup qualifiers: June 4 at Jamaica, June 7 at Panama, and June 11 vs. Costa Rica. Following the qualifiers, Mexico will head to Brazil for the Confederations Cup.

Nigeria was just crowned champion of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Burkina Faso in the final. Mexico and Nigeria last met in 2007, with the teams playing out a 2-2 draw at Estadio Olimpico Benito Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Mexico has played 12 matches at Reliant Stadium since 2003, averaging nearly 60,000 fans per appearance.
