Ahead of Mexico’s opening Hexagonal match against Jamaica, Coach Jose Manuel de la Torre has warned Mexican fans not to expect too much in terms of style points.

The coach says his team has no obligation to play beautiful soccer or score multiple goals against a solid Jamaican team.

“I don’t play against victims, I play against opponents,” said de la Torre. “It’s different, so it depends how we look at it. Our objective is to begin the Hexagonal on the right foot.

“I’m not obligated to do anything in particular. We have a commitment to do things well, which is different.”

De la Torre says Mexico’s sole objective on Wednesday is to win the match, regardless of whether it’s done with an attractive or completely satisfying style.

“The object is obviously to qualify, and tomorrow, to win. We have the abilities to do it. But sometimes the rival also figures in, and you can’t play as spectacularly as the people might like.

“It’s very simple, we have to be efficient. That’s the way you get things done.”
