Mexico coach Herrera defends Chicharito, says Brizuela is best in Liga MX

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez may not have featured for even one minute in Manchester United’s last three games, but Mexico coach Miguel Herrera doesn’t doubt the quality he can bring to El Tri.

“Javier Hernandez has attitude, determination, he trains very well, physically he is good and he has scored 30 goals with the national team,” Herrera said during a Wednesday news conference.

“We can’t forget Chicharito’s history with the national team,” he continued.

El Tri’s coach tackled a range of topics in the extensive news conference and left nobody in any doubt that the stock of Toluca’s Isaac Brizuela has rapidly risen.

“’Conejito’ is the best in the (Mexican) league,” gushed the former America coach, referring to Brizuela by his nickname. “He’s doing the right things and makes me very happy, like (Carlos) Pena.”

There was more negative news for Cruz Azul’s in-form forward Marco Fabian, with the Mexico manager suggesting he still has some way to improve to get back to being the player that won an Olympic gold medal.

Giovani Dos Santos’ future with the national team is also a little clearer, with the Villarreal player preferring to be considered a central striker, something Herrera said he will honor.

Herrera also added he hasn’t called up any naturalized Mexicans into his squad simply because he doesn’t think there are currently any in good enough form.
