Mets RHP Harvey to start for NL in All-Star Game

The SportsXchange

New York Mets right-hander Matt Harvey was named the starting pitcher for the National League in Tuesday's All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York.

Harvey, in his first full season in the major leagues, will be the first pitcher to start the All-Star Game in his home ballpark since Roger Clemens at Minute Maid Park in Houston in 2004.

Harvey's start on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates was scratched. The team is putting an innings limit on Harvey and was waiting for a blister on one of his fingers to heal.

Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw was also a candidate to start the All-Star Game. He leads the majors with a 1.89 ERA.

Harvey is 7-2 with a 2.35 ERA. He also has 147 strikeouts in 130 innings.
