Meet Mayhem

LAS VEGAS – Jason "Mayhem" Miller is 26 and has been a professional mixed martial artist for six years, but he says he's been a fighter long before that.

"I was fighting in the womb," Miller says. "As a zygote, I was about to be strangled by the umbilical cord. FYI, the umbilical cord got torn to pieces and pooped out."

OK.

Miller is, needless to say, a free spirit, the kind of guy who will say anything at any time about anyone.

But he's also a solid fighter who has an 18-5 record and took the highly regarded Georges St. Pierre the distance in a 2005 welterweight fight in the UFC.

Miller will meet Hiromitsu Miura, a hard-puncher from Japan, in a three-round middleweight bout on a World Extreme Cagefighting card May 12 at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas.

Miller is a submissions expert but said he's hard to classify as a fighter. He said Dan Henderson, who holds the 185 and 205-pound titles in the Pride Fighting Championship, has helped him improve his game by returning him to the basics.

"He's gotten me back in touch with my redneck roots," Miller said. "He's helped me figure out how to slam people on their heads better and how to really pound someone’s face in.

"I'm going to pummel this guy. I'm going to turn up the heat and go mayhem on this guy as soon as they say go. I'm ready to go 100 miles an hour."

But he won't do that until after an elaborate entrance that he said might include Chinese dancers and fire eating girls "depending upon the local fire ordinances." He plans to come to the cage wearing a mask, as he frequently does.

"The only thing better than getting all the chicks is scaring all the chicks away," he said. "I'm the ugliest man in MMA, but it doesn't pay to be beautiful in this sport. In this case, ugly is good, so I'm happy."

LOADED

White said the UFC's planned July 7 show will be one of the most stacked in the company's history.

Former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz will face unbeaten Rashad Evans in the main event of a card planned for ARCO Arena in Sacramento. Ortiz and Evans have already developed a fierce rivalry and Ortiz has been referring to Evans in derogatory fashion on postings on Internet bulletin boards.

Also on that card, lightweight champion Sean Sherk will make his first title defense by meeting jiu-jitsu expert Hermes Franca and middleweight champion Anderson Silva will defend his belt against Nate Marquardt.
