STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) -- Jerick McKinnon took over at quarterback in the second quarter and carried 13 times for 162 yards to lead Georgia Southern to a 35-16 Southern Conference win over Samford on Saturday night.

After Samford made it 21-16 in the third quarter on Jaquiski Tartt's 80-yard return of a fumble, McKinnon's 67-yard burst gave Georgia Southern a 28-16 lead.
