SAN DIEGO (AP) -- For the second time this season, the Chargers lost after allowing an opponent to score on its last possession. Coach Mike McCoy is exhorting the Chargers not to put themselves in situations where they can happen again.

San Diego had the Titans pinned back on their own 7-yard line with just over 2 minutes left and no time outs but lost 20-17 Sunday after allowing Tennessee to drive to the clinching score, a 34-yard touchdown pass from Jake Locker to rookie Justin Hunter with 15 seconds left.

''I'll take my chances any day of making a team go 94 yards in a two-minute situation on our defense to make a stop,'' McCoy said Monday. ''But like I told our team, 'Don't get to that point. Don't put it on the defense. Convert that four-minute situation, pick up first downs at end of the game and the game is over.' But we didn't get it done.''

Not that the Chargers didn't have a chance. San Diego (1-2) led most of the game despite being banged up with three starters out because of injuries, a fourth very limited and a fifth lost to an injured foot in the first half.

But in the end, they couldn't collect enough first downs to kill the clock.

''It's all about winning,'' McCoy said, ''and we didn't get it done at the end.''
