FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) Trey McCorkle scored 18 points and IPFW pulled away in the second half to beat Southern Utah 79-58 on Tuesday night.
Frank Gaines added 12 points, Michael Kibiloski 11 and Mario Hines 10 for the Mastodons (8-6, 2-3 Summit League), who ended a three-game slide. Hines had a game-high nine rebounds.
Jackson Stevenett scored 19 and Ramell Taylor 10 for the Thunderbirds (7-7, 2-2), whose three-game winning streak ended.
IPFW shot 53 percent (31 of 58) and made 6 of 15 3-pointers. Southern Utah went 0 of 6 from long range.
The Thunderbirds trailed 36-29 at halftime before pulling within 42-39 on Damon Heuir's basket with 15:11 left.
But an 8-2 run on a three-point play by Gaines, a 3-pointer by Kibiloski and a basket by Justin Jordan put the Mastodons ahead 50-41 with 11:11 left. The lead steadily increased as IPFW outscored Southern Utah 43-29 in the second half.
