Matuidi: I'm close to signing new PSG deal

Blaise Matuidi has calmed Paris Saint-Germain fans' fears that he might leave in the summer by insisting he will sign a new contract soon.

The midfielder, in whom Arsenal was briefly interested during the winter transfer window before being rebuffed by PSG, has a contract which currently expires at the end of 2013-14.

Following the reigning Ligue 1 champions' 2-0 win over Bordeaux on Friday, the 26-year-old says he is enjoying life at Parc des Princes and has no plans to depart in the summer.

"I am very happy here," Matuidi told Canal Plus. "The new contract will happen soon - do not worry."

January signing Yohan Cabaye came off the bench to make his debut for les Parisiens in Friday's hard-fought victory and Matuidi does not fear an additional central midfielder whom he will be vying with for a spot in the starting lineup.

"Having competition is the sign of a great club and it will help the team," the France international added. "Cabaye has had a very good debut. He quickly adapted. He is a very good player - a player who will be good for PSG and for Ligue 1."

Laurent Blanc's side leads the French top tier by six points over second-placed Monaco having played a game more, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alex having netted second-half goals in Friday's 2-0 over Bordeaux.
