The Winnipeg Jets made three UFA signings on July 1, but on Thursday they extended a key piece of their core going forward.

Mathieu Perreault will get a bit of a raise beginning with the 2017-18 NHL season after inking a four-year, $16.5 million extension. Per Cap Friendly, the deal gives him $4.5 million in salary the first year and $4 million per season in the final three and a limited no-trade clause.

“His game is an infectious game,” Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said via the Winnipeg Sun. “He’s a guy that likes the puck on his stick and can make plays. He’s good on the power play, he’s shown his versatility in a lot of different areas. There’s lots of positives.”

The 28-year-old has 27 goals and 82 points in 133 games since coming to Winnipeg in 2014. He was second on the Jets this past season in power play goals (6) and power play points (15). Perreault was also a possession monster, posting a 57 percent Corsi rating and 7.42 Corsi Relative in 2015-16, per Corsica Hockey. With all that he does, this deal is a very, very nice piece of business for the Jets.
