Mason to start Game 4 for Flyers

The SportsXchange

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Steve Mason will start in Game 4 of the first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers after being out since April 12 with an upper-body injury.

The Rangers lead the best-of-7 series 2-1.

"You don't want to be sitting on the sidelines come playoff time," Mason said. "If you can be something that helps a team win a hockey game, then that's a good feeling. But I think everybody realizes there's a lot of hockey to be played and we're not worried too much."

It will not be Mason's first playoff action this season after he played the final 7:15 of the Flyers' 4-1 loss in Game 3 in relief of Ray Emery. Emery allowed 10 goals in the first three games.

"He's a talented goalie. We all knew that," Flyers coach Craig Berube said of Mason. "He's gotten better and better throughout the year. He's just a battler. He's come up big all year for us."
