Maryland-Baltimore County 59, Bimghamton 49

Despite shooting 32 percent from the field, Maryland-Baltimore County pulled away from Binghamton for a 59-49 win Sunday to clinch the sixth seed in the America East tournament.

The Retrievers' Ryan Cook led all scorers with 24 points. Brian Neller, who made five 3-pointers to move into second on the school's career list, added 17 points.

Maryland Baltimore-County (7-22, 5-11 America East) shot 31 percent from the field (20 of 63) but made 46 percent of its 3-pointers (12 of 26).

Binghamton (3-26, 1-15), led by Taylor Johnston's 16 points, shot 34 percent from the field (19 of 56) and was 6 of 23 on 3-pointers.

Cook hit a 3-pointer just before halftime to put the Retrievers up 26-25 at the break. The score was tied at 30 with 15:58 remaining, but Maryland-Baltimore County extended the lead to six with 12:24 remaining after a Joey Getz 3-pointer.

The Bearcats cut the lead to two with 10 minutes remaining but went the final 3:35 without scoring as the Retrievers pulled away.

UMBC will face third-seeded Hartford in the conference tournament quarterfinals. Binghamton, as the eighth seed, will play top-seeded Stony Brook. Both quarterfinal matchups will be March 9 at the University of Albany.
