The Dolphins have been surprisingly impressive since Week One, and while the defense is the team’s strength, the offense is overachieving with regards to seriously low preseason expectations. Ryan Tannehill keeps improving and Brian Hartline is off to a great start, but the O-line also has played a key role.

The biggest concern heading into the season on the line was the right side, where the Dolphins had two new starters. We heard the team wanted second-round rookie Jonathan Martin to win the tackle position, which he did. “I think Jonathan Martin, for a rookie, is playing above our expectations at this point,” offensive coordinator Mike Sherman told reporters on Monday. John Jerry surprised observers with his ability to slim down, overcome struggles from his first two seasons and then nail down the right guard spot. “He's lost about 30-35 pounds since the summertime and I think that’s really added to his game,” Sherman said, crediting O-line coach Jim Turner with Jerry’s conditioning.

According to Stats LLC, the pair has combined to give up only 1.25 sacks this season. As a team, the Dolphins have allowed nine sacks, which is among the lowest in the league.  “(Martin and Jerry) aren’t perfect. They still have a ways to go, but I think we’re getting there,” Sherman said.
