Markieff Morris scores 25, Suns edge Nuggets

Automated Insights

The Phoenix Suns beat the Denver Nuggets in a close one, 103-99. Phoenix (15-10) has now won seven of their last 10 games.

Markieff Morris came off the bench and had a strong game, scoring 25 points on 6-14 shooting from the field (2-3 from behind the arc) and 11-15 from the free throw line. He tallied 3 blocks also. Other top contributors for Phoenix included Gerald Green with 19 points and 8 rebounds, and Goran Dragic with 17 points and 6 assists. On 5-14 shooting, including 2-6 from behind the arc, Wilson Chandler scored 15 points for Denver in the loss. He also registered 7 rebounds. J.J. Hickson added 13 points and 14 rebounds, Ty Lawson finished with 13 points and 7 assists, and Darrell Arthur put up 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Surprisingly, the advantage on the defensive glass went to the Suns (76.1% DR%), despite the fact that the Nuggets are among the league's elite on the offensive glass, ranking fourth in OR% at 28.8%. Meanwhile, the Suns rank 27th in the NBA at collecting defensive rebounds with a DR% of 72.4%. The Nuggets posted an eFG% of just 43.5%, including 23.5% from 3-point range. This year, they are 1-3 when they record marks below 45% and 30% in those respective categories. On the other hand, the Suns are 5-2 when holding their opponents to such low percentages.

This drops Denver (14-11) to 0-2 against Phoenix on the year.

Coming up, the Suns square off with the Dallas Mavericks, who are 15-11 on the season. The Nuggets match up against the Los Angeles Clippers, currently sitting at 18-9 this year.
