On HDNet's "Inside MMA," BJJ purple belt and two-time national championship wrestler Mark Munoz said he will use his hammer fist "Donkey Kong" punches to defeat his opponent, Chris Weidman. Munoz said he's been working on his stand up, but he's ready for the fight to go wherever it goes: on the ground, on the feet or against the cage.
UFC on Fuel TV Viewing Options
Coming rapidly on the heels of UFC 148, here's another MMA event in UFC on Fuel 4: Munoz vs Weidman on Wednesday, July 11, starting at 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET in San Jose, California.
This event has flown under the radar for me, mostly because I don't have Fuel TV.
This past weekend, I watched UFC 148 in a place that couldn't access the televised prelims, but we were able to find those fights being shown online. Take a look and see for yourself, but be sure and choose a trustworthy site.
UFC on Fuel TV Munoz vs Weidman Main Fight Card
Munoz vs Weidman gives fans more exciting middleweight action to help determine who will face UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva next. Michael Bisping has thrown his hat into the ring, but maybe one of these two men will be next to step up to contender status and attempt to dethrone Silva.
I want Munoz to win in this match-up because I'd like to see this wrestler take on Anderson "the Spider" Silva. Chael Sonnen demonstrated that Silva can be taken down. That doesn't necessarily mean that he can be beaten. But, I like watching the "Spider" disentangle himself when he ends up in difficult positions during a fight.
Chris "All-American" Weidman trains with the Matt Serra/Ray Longo fight camp. At 28, Chris has many more years ahead of him to improve his skills and fill in any holes in his game. Weidman has impressive wins over BJJ black belt Demian Maia and Tommy Lawlor in his most recent visits to the Octagon. Weidman's last match against Demian Maia was in January 2012.
Mark Munoz , 34, defeated Chris Leben at UFC 138 in November 2011. That win over Leben has me convinced that Munoz wins this fight. At 34, fighters get in the age range where "when to retire" becomes part of their goal setting. With a limited number of fights ahead of him (all those punches and injuries catch up with everyone at some point), Munoz has to defeat Weidman to continue his climb to face the best MMA fighter on the planet, Anderson Silva.

These five preliminary fights will be shown on the UFC Facebook page starting at 5:45 pm ET (2:45 pm PT). That seems really early to start the fights, but better to get your computer turned on early and wait rather than miss one of the preliminary fights you really want to see.
