Mariners' Zunino out six weeks

Seattle Mariners rookie catcher Mike Zunino was diagnosed with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand and will be sidelined about six weeks, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.

With that prognosis it's possible Zunino's season is over.

Zunino was injured when he was hit by a foul tip during Thursday's game.

Zunino, 22, was called up from Triple-A on June 12 and is hitting .242 with two homers in 29 games for the Mariners.

Seattle released Kelly Shoppach to make room for Zunino last month. That leaves 41-year-old Henry Blanco as the Mariners' top catcher at the moment.
