Mariners president denies Hamilton report

The SportsXchange

Mariners president Chuck Armstrong denied a Seattle Times report that his team was nearing a deal with free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton.

The Seattle Times reported Thursday that an agreement was "very close," but Armstrong told USA Today that the Mariners haven't ruled out Hamilton, but added that the sides "haven't exchanged numbers and figures."

Hamilton is one of the prizes this winter. The lefty batted .285 with 43 home runs and 128 RBIs in 148 games last season for the Texas Rangers.
