Mariners 4, Rangers 3

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Kyle Seager continued to be a thorn in the Texas Rangers' side, hitting his second go-ahead hit of the series to propel the Seattle Mariners to a 4-3 win on Sunday.

Seager, who had hit a two-run homer in Friday's 3-1 win, lifted the Mariners with a two-out double in the ninth off of Joe Nathan to bring home Endy Chavez.

Seattle (57-66) clinched its second series in the month of August after taking the rubber match of a three-game set with the Rangers. The Mariners improved to 3-3 during a nine-game road trip that concludes with a three-game series with Oakland beginning on Monday.

Texas, on the other hand, dropped its first series of the month after taking the previous three and a split of a two-game meeting with Milwaukee. The Rangers (71-53) continue their nine-game homestand when they host the Astros beginning on Monday.

Rangers starter Yu Darvish and Mariners starter Erasmo Ramirez but pitched well, but neither factored into the decision.

Darvish threw 7 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts, following up a performance in which the right-hander struck out 15 in his last start against the Astros. Darvish was responsible for three earned runs in the contest, walking four and giving up seven hits.

Ramirez lasted seven innings, while giving up two runs (one earned) and allowing just four hits.

Rangers reliever Robbie Ross was unable to pick Darvish up after Darvish departed with runners on first and second in the eighth. Ross gave up a two-out hit to Dustin Ackley to give the Mariners a 3-2 lead.

Texas came right back in the bottom half with Craig Gentry scoring from first on a double by Elvis Andrus.

Yoervis Medina (4-3) picked up the win for the Mariners by pitching the eighth, giving up a run, and Danny Farquhar saved his seventh of the season. On the other side, Nathan fell to 3-2.

After four scoreless innings to begin the day, the teams broke through in the fifth and sixth by exchanging runs.

The Mariners opened the fifth with back-to-back singles, and Chavez's grounder to first base brought home Michael Saunders to open up the scoring.

Saunders lifted Seattle again in the sixth when he laced a line drive into right for a double and a 2-1 lead.

Texas responded to each of the Seattle runs. A.J. Pierzynski stretched out a blooper into right-field for a lead-off double and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Mitch Moreland.

Gentry used his speed to tie the game again in the Rangers' half of the sixth. Gentry reached on a close play at first when Seager bobbled a grounder, Gentry pushed to third on a stolen base and throwing error.

Adrian Beltre plated Gentry with a short fly that landed in shallow right-field.

Notes: Rangers manager Ron Washington said that the team would not announce its starting pitcher for Tuesday's game until Monday afternoon. Matt Garza will replace Alexi Ogando in Monday night's game due to soreness in Ogando's right shoulder. Garza will be pitching on five days' rest. ... Seager's ninth-inning hit extended his hitting streak to 14 games at Rangers Ballpark.
