Los Angeles Kings forward Marian Gaborik saw a goal overturned in the second period of his team’s game at the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

At the 14:53 mark, Kings defenseman Alec Martinez fired a shot on Sharks goaltender Martin Jones. The puck then deflected to Gaborik, who was being pushed by Sharks defenseman Dylan DeMelo, in front after Jones made the initial save.

The Kings forward tried to swipe at the puck with his stick but seemed to miss and deflected it in with his hand to tie the game at 1-1. After a review the play was called no-goal.

The NHL believed that Gaborik batted the puck into the net.

At 14:53 of the second period in the Kings/Sharks game, video review determined that Los Angeles’ Marian Gaborik batted the puck into the San Jose net with his hand. According to Rule 67.6 “a goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who bats or directs the puck with his hand into the net.” No goal Los Angeles.

According to that same rule a goal can be allowed, “When the puck enters the net on a clear deflection off a glove.”

A goal could have given the 34-year-old Gaborik some much-needed confidence. Through 16 games in 2016-17 he has scored one goal and has a total of 13 in his last 70 contests dating back to last season.

The Kings ended up winning the game 2-1 on a Tanner Pearson overtime goal.

Kings coach Darryl Sutter was mum on the disallowed goal, saying, “It’s a rule.
