Maradona claims he learned about Al Wasl dismissal on Twitter

Diego Maradona has revealed he learned about his sacking from Al Wasl via Twitter, describing the situation a "mess".

The 51-year-old Argentine legend was dismissed by the Dubai outfit earlier this month after an underwhelming first season in charge, despite signing a two-year contract with the club in May 2011.

However, Maradona told Argentine radio station Perros de la Calle he was not informed of the decision until he discovered it on the social networking platform.

“The fact I learned [about my sacking] via Twitter is a mess,” said Maradona. “I was working until they decided to make a change. The club is theirs and I cannot say anything as they have the right to choose their coach.”

Maradona had intimated that he had not received official notice of his dismissal shortly after the decision became public.

However, Al Wasl vice-president Mohammed Bin Dukhan insisted last week that wasn't the case, stating they contacted him through the Argentine embassy with the aid of a Spanish translator.

“We used the right channels to call his legal representative and inform him of the decision, but if there was a delay it was because it took us time to evaluate the whole situation and then decide,” Bin Dukhan said.

Al Wasl failed to win a single trophy during the 2011-12 season, finishing down in eighth in the 12-team Pro-League, while it surrendered a 3-1 first leg lead in the Gulf Clubs Championship final to lose to Al Muharraq on penalties.
