Manziel only taking online courses

Johnny Manziel doesn't need to worry much about being mobbed by well-wishers as he walks across the Texas A&M campus.

That's because the first freshman ever to win the Heisman Trophy is rarely on campus. He's taking all four of his classes online this semester, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

"It just happened to work out where it was good after the football season with all of the stuff going on," Manziel said, according to the newspaper. "It was a good time to not have to worry about being on campus and some other things, too."

Manziel said he transferred out of his one on-campus English class after being badgered for photos and autographs.

"I went one day -- it was a small class of 20 or 25 -- and it kind of turned into more of a big deal than I thought," Manziel said, the Express-News reported. "The (athletic department) did a good job of saying let us know if you need anything and we'll figure it all out, but (by then) I had all online classes so we didn't need (that help)."

Manziel guided Texas A&M to an 11-2 record last season, capped by a 41-13 rout of Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. He had a Cotton Bowl-record 516 total yards.

Manziel completed 295 of 434 passes for 3,706 yards on the season. He threw 26 touchdown passes and was intercepted nine times. He also ran the ball 201 times for 1,571 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Only Manziel, Cam Newton, Tim Tebow and Colin Kaepernick have recorded at least 20 rushing touchdowns and 20 passing touchdowns in the same season for a Football Bowl Subdivision team.

The Aggies open spring practice March 2, and they kick off the 2013 season Aug. 31 with a home game against Rice.
