AP - Sports

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Manny Ramirez Jr. is going to play college baseball at the University of San Francisco.

The son of the former All-Star slugger is transferring from Central Arizona College to the Dons, where he will be a freshman. Coach Nino Giarratano said Thursday that Ramirez is a talented hitter and defensive first baseman who could fit in the middle of the Dons lineup.

Ramirez went to high school at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he hit .331 with 11 doubles, two triples, three homers, and 36 RBIs. He led IMG to a Cleats Sports Classic Invitational championship, going 12 for 23 with seven extra base hits in the tournament.

Ramirez was also named to the Rawlings 2013 Florida All Region First Team.
