Manchester City comprehensively demolished Wigan in their Capital One Cup third-round clash, with Stevan Jovetic scoring his first two goals for the club in a 5-0 win.
A reunion of the teams that contested last season's FA Cup final ended much further from an upset, with Edin Dzeko kicking the hosts into gear in the first half with a fine finish from Fernandinho's penetrating pass.
Jovetic's first was no classic, the rebound from his unsuccessful first shot deflecting off him into the net, but the Montenegrin's performance merited it, with Yaya Toure later adding to the score sheet with a powerful free kick.
The 23-year-old then picked up his second in the 83rd minute, showing exquisite control to trap a ball from James Milner before firing past the goalkeeper.
Jesus Navas put the icing on the cake, latching onto a through ball from Alvaro Negredo to score past the helpless Lee Nicholls.
