Man tries to get himself admitted to hospital... so he can watch Juventus game from window

A man was refused admittance to a hospital in Crotone, Italy after trying to convince staff he was ill - just so he could watch a football game out of the window.

The man, a Juventus fan who hails from Reggio Calabria in southern Italy, reportedly tried to get himself hospitalised at the San Giovanni di Dio medical facility so that he could watch the match between his beloved Juve and the locals, Crotone.

The Serie A fixture at the 16,000-capacity Stadio Ezio Scida was sold out, forcing this Juventus supporter to take desperate measures to get a view of the game.

The hospital in question towers over one side of the stadium and the whole pitch can be seen from many of its windows on one side of the building.

Sadly, it seems there is no career in acting for the Juve fan, who was sent packing after failing to convince staff that there was actually something wrong with him.

All the same, he could at least go home content in the knowledge that his side registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Crotone, who were promoted to Serie A last season for the first time in their history.

The man can also rest assured that neither of Juve's second-half goals - courtesy of Mario Mandzukic and Gonzalo Higuaín - were anything to write home about.

The Juventus fan isn't the first, though, to get creative about how to see a football match - and there are several cases of English supporters showing their ingenuity.

The 20 greatest stadiums in European club football

In 2014, Man City fans rented out a flat in a tower block in Moscow in order to get a birds-eye view of their side's Champions League group match against CSKA, after Uefa ordered CSKA's home matches in Europe to be played behind closed doors.

And back in 2008, when Stoke City were first promoted to the Premier League, fans regularly climbed trees on a hill in one corner of the Britannia Stadium to get a view of the oft-sold-out matches.

The tactic was (sadly?) neutralised when the club installed a big screen in that corner of the ground in time for the next season.
