Saint Louis men's basketball coach Rick Majerus is taking a leave of absence this season because of a health issue, ESPN.com reported Friday.
"Rick is in a California hospital undergoing evaluation and treatment for an ongoing heart condition," athletic director Chris May said in a statement. "His health is the most important issue right now, and our hope is for full and complete recovery."
Majerus, 64, resigned from Utah in 2004, because of health concerns.
He was hospitalized last year and missed a game because he took the wrong medication. In the summer of 2011 he had a stent inserted, which is a tube that treats weak arteries.
Assistant coach Jim Crews will replace Majerus in the interim. Crews also coached at Evansville and Army.
