The Gunners had a $46 million offer for Suárez turned down by Liverpool two weeks ago, but Arsenal is said to be returning with an improved offer for the Uruguay international. Reports have stated that Arsenal is expected to now offer $61.4 million for Suárez; however, these reports that the Gunners are "expected" to make the improved offer have been in the British papers for a few days now, and it remains to be seen if the $61.4 million offer has actually been submitted.
There was encouraging news for Gunner fans this morning, as Uruguayan journalist Martin Charquero sent out a tweet, saying, "Luis Suárez is very close to Arsenal." Charquero, who works for the Uruguayan sports network Tenfield, is reportedly close to Suárez.
Liverpool does not want to lose its top goal scorer (especially to a league rival), and it would appear that the only way Suárez would leave Liverpool is if the player would officially submit a transfer request to leave the Merseyside club, something Suárez has not yet done. Suárez is due to have talks with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers within the next day or so, and it would appear that the striker's future will be sorted out soon.
Even though Arsenal has reportedly been active with bids in this summer's transfer market, Gunners fans are appearing to get restless with the lack of signings. The only player that the club has brought in so far this summer is Yaya Sanogo, an under-21 France international who was brought to the club on a free transfer. While it appears likely that Wenger will spend money on incoming players this summer, Arsenal fans will just have to be patient when it comes to these transfers.
Christopher Moore has been following Arsenal Football Club for over 10 years.
