LSU Tigers Look to Continue Several Streaks Against Towson: Fan's Take

Yahoo Contributor Network

The No. 3 LSU Tigers are 4-0 this season and have one last non-conference game remaining in the regular season. The Tigers will face Towson at home on Saturday, September 29, before entering a tough part of the schedule that features all SEC teams. While Towson is 2-1, as an LSU fan I expect my team to get a big win this weekend and continue a number of impressive streaks.

The LSU Tigers are 30-0 in regular season non-conference games under head coach Les Miles. Teams like Towson may not exactly be top competition, but this streak includes recent wins over ranked teams like Oregon, West Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. The Tigers' schedule does also include easier games every year, but LSU has definitely played against highly-ranked non-conference opponents from major conferences as well.

Overall, LSU has now won 40 consecutive non-conference regular season contests, an NCAA record. Unless Towson can pull off a major upset, this streak should easily be carried into the 2013 season. The Tigers have not really been tested this year by non-conference opponents, defeating North Texas, Washington and Idaho by a combined score of 145-31. The team's schedule in the 2011 regular season, however, included games against eight ranked teams, including three meetings with top-three schools.

The team also boasts a 20-game winning streak at home and a 17-game winning streak in the regular season. Surely these streaks will be tested later this season when the Tigers face Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi State and other tough teams. But this still shows what Miles has been able to accomplish as LSU's coach.

With 25 consecutive wins in the month of September, the Tigers were fortunate to escape with a 12-10 victory against Auburn in their last game. After one final non-conference game against Towson, things will get much tougher for LSU in October. As an LSU fan, though, I just want my team to have another shot at a BCS Championship, regardless of any win streaks or poll rankings.
