Julius Brooks made a layup with one second to go in double-overtime to give Loyola-Maryland an 89-87 victory at Niagara Saturday and ended a two-game losing streak.
The Greyhounds (16-8, 8-4 MAAC) led by two late in the second extra session, but Malcolm Lemmons tied the game with a pair of free throws with three seconds to play. Brooks then hit the winning points on a pass from Erik Etherly.
Anthony Winbush forced overtime with a pair of free throws with 35 seconds left in regulation. Niagara held for the last shot, and Juan'ya Green missed a 3-pointer as time expired. The Greyhounds then raced out to a 76-68 lead in the extra session, but the Purple Eagles came back, and this time Green managed to connect on his 3-pointer with nine seconds to play.
Robert Olson scored 23 points to lead the Greyhounds, but he fouled out with 7:27 to play in regulation. Winbush had 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Green and Antoine Mason each had 23 points to lead the Purple Eagles.
Olson wasn't the only player in foul trouble, which isn't surprising given that 52 fouls were called. Jarred Jones fouled out in the first minute of overtime.
Devon White fouled out for Niagara in regulation, with Ameen Tanksley picking up his fifth on the first possession of overtime.
