Junior guard Dylon Cormier scored eight of his 19 points in overtime, leading Loyola-Maryland to a 63-58 victory over Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Friday night at Reitz Arena in Baltimore.
Loyola's scoring leader was quiet in regulation, but he took over in the extra session. Cormier hit the go-ahead basket to give the Greyhounds a 51-49 lead with 2:51 remaining and made a layup with two seconds left to finish off the Stags.
Senior forward Erik Etherly led all scorers with 20 points for the Greyhounds (12-5, 5-1 MAAC), who have won three in a row. Senior guard Robert Olson had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Freshman forward Josip Mikulic came off the bench to score 16 points for the Stags (10-7, 2-3). Junior forward Keith Matthews had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Neither team scored in the final two minutes of regulation time as the score remained 47-47.heading into overtime.
The Greyhounds won despite going 0-for-8 from 3-point range. They shot 37.3 percent from the field and made 25 of 34 free-throw attempts.
The Stags shot 38.3 percent from the field, but made only 8 of 17 from the free-throw line.
