Love out eight to 10 weeks after hand surgery

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love underwent right hand surgery Tuesday, and he's expected to miss another eight to 10 weeks.

According to the team, Love had his broken third and fourth metacarpal bones repaired by Dr. Michelle Carson at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

The operation came nearly two weeks after Love was hurt during a Jan. 3 loss to the Nuggets in Denver.

Love is averaging 21.7 points and 15.3 rebounds per game this season. The rebounding figure would lead the league if Love had played enough to qualify. He missed the first nine games of the season due to another right hand injury that didn't require surgery. He missed time last month due to an eye injury.

With Love sidelined this month, the Timberwolves have gone 1-5, and they've lost four consecutive games.

Love, who is in his fifth season out of UCLA, led the NBA in rebounding in 2010-11, and he finished second last season.

Minnesota returns to action Thursday with a home game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
