Trent Mackey hit a 3-pointer with 8.6 seconds left to give Louisiana-Monroe a comeback, 65-64 victory over Florida Atlantic in Sun Belt Conference basketball Saturday night.
The Warhawks (2-7, 1-2) trailed throughout the second half until gaining possession when FAU freshman Stefan Moody, playing his first game after serving a three-game suspension, missed two free throws with 35.2 seconds remaining.
The Warhawks missed their first opportunity to score but got the ball back in the scramble for the rebound and Mackey cashed in with his fifth 3-pointer of the game.
ULM's Jayon James led all scorers with 26 points, and Mackey wound up with 19.
The Owls (6-7, 2-1) got 25 points from senior Greg Gantt. It was the fifth consecutive game with at least 20 points for the senior, who became the school's all-time leading scorer in his previous outing.
The Owls shot 54.5 percent from the field, going 23 of 42, but were done in by 20 turnovers. The host Warhawks committed only nine.
The game was the third in a row on the road for the Owls, who will return home to host Hofstra in a non-conference game Tuesday.
