LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) -- Shawn Long scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Louisiana-Lafayette overpowered Southern University at New Orleans in the second half to win 76-66 Wednesday night.
The Ragin' Cajuns (2-2) trailed 26-24 at intermission after a back-and-forth first half in which the NAIA Knights (2-1) led by five.
The lead changed hands five more times before Bryant Mbamalu's 3-pointer gave Louisiana-Lafayette a 49-42 lead with 12:39 to go. After Southern-New Orleans briefly cut the deficit to three with 10:19 left, the Ragin' Cajuns pulled away.
Elridge Moore and Steven Wronkoski added 12 points and Elfrid Payton 11 points and seven assists for Louisiana-Lafayette, which shot 46.8 percent from the field (29 of 62), but hit only 3 of 17 from long range.
Anthony Turner scored 16 points and pulled down 16 rebounds and Joshua Major added 15 points for the Knights in the first meeting between the programs.
