Vancouver Canucks forward Loui Eriksson has been one of the more disappointing offseason signings so far in 2016-17.

During the summer, Eriksson signed a six-year $36 million deal with Vancouver to provide offense and savvy two-way play. So far neither has happened. Eriksson’s only “goal” so far this season came in the first game when he shot a puck into his own net on a delayed penalty. On Tuesday against the red hot New York Rangers, Eriksson finally got on the board for his team.

Eriksson took a feed from Daniel Sedin in front of Rangers goaltender Antti Raanta and buried a gorgeous backhand over the outstretched netminder to tie the game at 1-1.

“I didn’t expect it to take 14 games to score a goal,” Eriksson quipped during his between periods interview with Sportsnet.

The Canucks need Eriksson to start scoring if they want to break out of their current funk. The team has lost nine games in a row, after starting the year with four straight wins. Last season, the 31-year-old Eriksson scored 30 goals and had 63 points for the Boston Bruins. He had just four assists in 13 previous games this season.

After he signed, Vancouver hoped Eriksson could find some symmetry with the Sedin twins. Maybe with this goal can give him some confidence moving forward.
