There are dozens of rumors floating around about the Boston Celtics' top men and the Los Angeles Clippers are looking to capitalize off of these rumors. This specific rumor involves the 36-year-old veteran Ray Allen.
We have all heard the rumors about the Celtics' superstar point guard Rajon Rondo, but some executives in the league are speculating that if any Celtic is going to be moved, Allen is the most likely candidate.
Right now the Clippers have a pretty strong team, but they are without Chauncey Billups at this time and since they are in a position to take the playoffs by storm, they need a full puzzle. Losing Billups will be a strain in the post-season.
The Celtics' will not let Allen go without a significant return though. "Boston reportedly wants a package that includes a young talent and a draft pick" says NESN. The young talent is something the Clippers have plenty of, but the draft pick is just not something that they have.
The 2012 first-round draft pick that the Clippers did have was sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Eric Bledsoe deal. Then, the Clippers got another first-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves and used it in the deal that led to them landing All-Star point guard Chris Paul.
Allen may be getting up their in age - by professional sports' standards anyway - but he still has plenty of good, solid years ahead of him as long as he can remain healthy.
The Boston shooting guard is averaging 14.7 points per game. 2.9 rebounds per game and 2.6 assists per game for the 2011-12 season. From the three-point line, he is shooting 48.3 percent.
With the trade deadline coming on fast and the Clippers being in contender position, this would be the time to deal a trade with the Celtics for Allen. The question is, who would the Clippers give up to score the veteran? The Clippers do have a lot of young talent, but giving some of it away could be detrimental to their post-season success.
