Logan Mankins on Buccaneers-Patriots trade: 'Not a shocker to me'
Everyone was surprised when the Patriots traded Logan Mankins to the Buccaneers. Except Logan Mankins.
Asked at his introductory presser with the Bucs whether he was surprised, Mankins called the deal "not a shocker to me."
“I didn’t know it was going to happen the way it did, but it’s not a shocker to me,” Mankins said via the Boston Herald.
His lack of shock stemmed primarily from an inability to find "common ground" with the Pats on a new and/or renegotiated contract.
“We had discussions and we just couldn’t come to common ground, and they made the move they did," Mankins said.
As for the rest of the Patriots, it doesn't sound like Tom Brady was thrilled about the move, even though Mankins wouldn't divulge the details of his conversation with Brady.
"I’ve talked to Tom ,” Mankins said. “I’ve talked to 99 percent of the team. I’m not going to get into what [Brady] said, but we were good friends. We spent a lot of time and a lot of years together. I’ll miss Tom for sure, and I’ll miss a lot of those guys. I had a lot of good friends there, a lot of coaches I was good friends with and it’s a sad day to see I won’t be with those guys."
It's definitely a sad day for Brady too, since he'll lose some protection. And Mankins has to be concerned about moving from the Pats to the Bucs in terms of team success, though he instantly makes Tampa a much stronger team.
